CONNECTION BETWEEN MUSEUMS
Jyväskylä Ruusupuisto,Finland
2015

The extension serves as a connecting gateway between two museums in Jyväskylä Ruusupuisto, Finland. The project includes a shared museum store and a technical space.

The idea was to make this extension look more like an individual with its own personality, so that the two museums, originally designed separately, would not suddenly be forced to merge in the middle and form an awkward whole. Since the exteriors of the two museums appear to be solid blocks, we wanted to maintain the sense of emptiness in between. Therefore, glass curtains were applied to make this project as transparent as possible.

The different floors between the two museums naturally create a vertical hierarchy in the space of this connecting section. The sloping foundation makes some space unusable, but we think that the unusable space is what makes the extension fascinating. Like the relationship between Yin and Yang, the unusable space is an integral part of an architectural space.
